Updated: Mar 26, 2020

Learn how to turn you milk jugs and plastic water bottles into planters.

( This activity can be done with any grade level)

Supplies

  • Container of your choice. You can turn any container into a pretty decent planter just by adding some drainage holes. Bear in mind that inexpensive plastic containers exposed to the weather may not hold up that long. You can use water bottles or milk jugs.

  • Cordless drill with small/medium sized drill bit( ask your parent)

  • Paint or markers

  • Soil

  • Seed of your choosing.

Breakdown:

“Do it yourself” recycling project is an entertaining and environmentally friendly way to reduce the amount of plastic packaging being thrown away daily. With most things, it’s better to repurpose them, than recycle them, which uses more energy. Guided by the idea of reducing waist, we have selected some great ideas for up-cycling plastic bottles. Here are a few ideas of how you can reuse plastic bottles to make useful items for yourself and family.

Plastic bottles are easily repurposed because they are transparent, elastic and flexible, and can be easily transformed into various useful objects for the house. With a little effort, you can give trash that would otherwise end up in a landfill a new life. The gallery below shows a great example of repurposing plastic bottles to make small planters. This reduces garbage, benefits the environment, and saves money. Have fun and save the environment!
