Sustainability Education
We work closely with a handful of partner high schools in Detroit and engage students in activities about energy, climate change, social justice, land use, food systems, ecology, social justice, the green economy, and civic engagement. The full curriculum exceeds 60 hours of after-school activities and students must apply to participate in the program. Students that successfully complete the sustainability education program are eligible for summer AmeriCorps positions with D-YES, which include a modest living stipend and a $1,500 education award to use toward tuition or other college expenses. We select schools based on their interest in D-YES and dedication by staff and faculty to help the program run smoothly. Interested parties should contact Justin Schott at justin@youthenergysquad.org for more information about becoming a partner in sustainability education.
